IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU

So following on from Sunday’s opening line from A Tale Of Two Cities, we’ll turn tro a modern classic, the best-sellinghardback  book of all time apart from the Bible – The Purpose Driven Life.

I love its opening line and quote it often - It’s not about you. That’s a counter-culture statement if I ever I read one, but then the Jesus we serve went against the trends of his time too. That’s why they crucified him.

Our lives find real fulfilment when we look beyond ourselves and plug into God’s passion to see men and women find salvation through faith in Jesus.

That’s why for all it’s challenges this week has been good. I’ve been reflecting on Sunday’s baptisms – 13 people whose lives have been changed. Then I’ve been connecting with a man who gave his life to Christ in Ronkonkoma on Sunday, while celebrating that a teenage girl was born again in Mastic.

I sat in Celebrate Recovery last night and chatted with a couple of guys who had traveled miles just to be there because they believed what we are teaching there each week can help them turn around. It worked for a lady who walked into CR six months ago, when she was tempted to be going looking for crack cocaine and decided to try our meeting that night instead. What a change in her!

It’s not about anybody – apart from Jesus and the people who need him.
